Moscow to Terminate Tram Contract with UVZ / Pesa

Moscow is to terminate a contract with Uralvagonzavod for low-floor tram supply, the Kommersant reports.
“Mosgortrans [Moscow urban transport operator] will announce a new contract for new-generation tram supply as trams jointly manufactured by UVZ and a Polish producer were not supplied in time”, Moscow Deputy Mayor Maxim Liksutov said.
At an earlier phase of the project UVZ partnered with Bombardier but in 2013 it changed the partner to Pesa. The first lot of trams were supplied from Poland. Then, due to the economic crisis and Russian ruble devaluation, the amount of the project rose and turned to be loss-bringing. In spring 2015 UVZ asked the Government for a reimbursement of the losses gained under the contract.
UVZ has already supplied 60 trams under the project (in total of 120 were to be delivered to Moscow).
