FGK to Buy 20,000 Freight Cars by 2020


Federal Freight Company (FGK) is to acquire over 20,000 freight cars in 2017 - 2019, the Gudok reports. Most of these cars will be innovative gondola cars.

FGK expects to increase its fleet to 166,000 freight cars by 2020. Innovative cars would share 22% of the total fleet - some 36,000 cars. In addition to innovative gondola cars FGK is to buy universal flat and contrailer flat cars.

Federal Freight Company is 100% owned by OAO RZD. The company operates 144,400 freight cars with around 8,000 innovative gondola cars. FGK expects to acquire up to 4,000 innovative cars in 2016. The company signed a strategic partnership cooperation agreement with Uralvagonzavod, one of Russia’s largest freight car manufacturers.
