Aeroexpress to Commission Double-Deckers in July 2017

Aeroexpress is to commission double-decker trains in July 2017, the Interfax quotes Aeroexpress’ Executive Director Valery Fedorov.

“Although the trains are new, designed by a Swiss company, they are unique to Russia and we would like them to meet all the safety criteria and operational specifications”, Mr. Fedorov said. “The manufacturer is to certify these trains and the certification is somewhat delayed due to our, Russian, specifics”.

Five out of 11 trains have already been manufactured and delivered to Russia. “Our target for commissioning the trains is July 2017. Repetitive certification tests are ongoing now”, Mr. Fedorov noted.

Under a contract signed in 2016 Stadler is to supply 9 six-car and 2 four-car double-decker trains to Aeroexpress. Initially, the contract was signed for 24 trains but then the amount was decreased.

Aeroexpress is a Russian airport rail shuttle provider. The company is owned by Delta-Trans-Invest (45.84%), Iskander Makhmudov (17.5%), Andrey Bokarev (7.5%), OAO RZD (25%) and Alexey Krivoruchko (4.16%).
